Pupils are provided with a range of opportunities in which to develop their spoken language skills. They experience speaking and listening in different contexts and are taught how to speak effectively to different audiences and for varying purposes. We value providing children with real opportunities to speak aloud to an audience, such as in class assemblies, Key Stage productions, performance poetry and celebration assembly.

In the Early Years, speaking and listening is a prime area of learning. Literacy skills are assessed and monitored, so early intervention can be put in place to prevent children falling further behind. We have staff trained to deliver interventions such as Spirals and WellComm. Referrals are made to the Speech and Language team as required.

Oral rehearsal is used to support development of vocabulary and composition ready for writing.
