Intent

In accordance with the 1996 Education Act we provide religious education for all pupils registered at the school. Religious education is taught in accordance with a locally agreed syllabus and meets the RE entitlement.

Implementation

Our school uses the ODBE RE units of work which are creatively delivered through RE Focus Weeks. RE has the same status and importance as any other curriculum subjects.RE is taught through RE focus weeks each half-term. Each afternoon during the week is given over to the teaching of RE to ensure that we dedicate 5-10% of our curriculum time to this subject.

Parents have the right to withdraw their children from RE by informing the headteacher. In these circumstances, children will be given alternative activities to complete during these sessions.

Annual Prayer Spaces Week offers an opportunity for the school community to explore spirituality through Prayer and Reflection.

Impact

Teachers assess children against the unit's learning objectives and record a summative judgement on the school tracking system each half-term. Assessments are made using a wide range of evidence, not just written evidence. RE attainment and progress are reviewed by leaders and children's attainment reported to parents at the end of the year.
